Final Project Prospectus
I've kind of totally changed my idea for my project. I was thinking in class today and how so many people who are just like us rise above and become so well-known for their pursuit of justice because of the passion we can put into it. This made me think that it would be cool to find some modern day people around America who aren't very well known but have committed their lives to justice, like Charlie Strobbel kind of people. I plan on finding four different people to read up on and make a poster for each of them that contains their stories and what they do today. The biggest challenge for me will probably be finding these people so if you have any advise that would help. I really just thought of this idea so I don't have anything started yet. My to-do list is really just find these people who exemplify the fight for justice and become intimate with their stories and lives and then present it to the class. I just think that this would be a good way to show that anyone can be important to the world through passion for doing what is right.

I like this idea. It would be especially cool if you made a poster in a digital format that people could reproduce. I would love to have these in my office. You could have a cool title that brought them together. What kinds of questions will you ask? Finding out who inspires these people and what they look to in the Bible would be great.
ReplyDeleteHere are some people I would consider in addition to Charlie:
Sonnye Dixon, pastor of Hobson United Methodist Church and local activist (you can google search Hobson and find him)
Gregg Ramos, Nashville Scene's Nashvillian of the Year and one of the leaders of the coalition against English Only
Jerry Maynard, Metro councilman at large and pastor
I just put out an email to some friends to ask for their suggestions.
The important thing is to make your choices and get on people's schedules. This takes some time. Also you need to determine what your poster will contain so there's some consistency. You could consider things like: heroes, favorite quotations, favorite Bible passages, life story, favorite books, etc.
Keep us posted and I'll let you know if I have more suggestions for people.
